This year we have a total of six competitions: Due to the compos being streamed on Twitch, please be advised not to use commercial music or nudity in your productions. There's a risk the stream will be banned in such a case (see Revision 2021).
Demos that work on the provided compo hardware will be run live on our machines while other Atari platforms will need a video recording to be submitted.
We will display full specifications of the hardware requirements as well as file size/resolution before it's shown.

Remote entries
You can send us remote entries via e-mail (use a suitable subject so we don't miss it by mistake). Please tell us in your mail which machine and compo the production is aimed for. Don't forget to make a video available if the production is for a system we don't have at hand.
Send entries to:
Thanks in advance for your participation!

For the most recent timetable with deadlines, please refer to the main page.

We hear people asking for monochrome ST demos, there aren't a lot of them around so the themed 520 ST compo at Sommarhack 2022 will be all about ST-HIGH monochrome goodness.

  • Must work on 512k RAM
  • Must work on Atari ST with diskdrive or harddrive
  • Entries using STe/Mega ST features or requiring more memory will be moved to the main demo compo
  • Several entries per person or crew is allowed

Note: Special tricks that rely on a SM124/SM144 might not display well on the party projector or stream.

THEMED COMPO #2 - Spectrum 512 photo

In 1987 a mad russian hacker named Boris Tsikanovsky created a genious painting program on the ST. By synclocking the machine and constantly altering colour palettes, his software called Spectrum 512 manages to display 48 colours per scanline.

It's time to celebrate this incredible breakthrough in ST graphics by holding a photo competition in it's honour. It will also be 35 years since it's release.

  • Photographs only, for hand made graphics see the graphics competition.
  • 320*200 pixels
  • ST Palette
  • Deliver in Spectrum 512 SPU format (see guide below)
  • More than one entry per person is allowed
The photos will be shown on a real Atari with a tool that strips away eventual STe colour data. No cheating :)

Download the viewer tool (incl. source) if you want to try your photo before sending in.
